CyanogenMod 6.0 Brings Android 2.2 Froyo To G1 and MyTouch 3G Handsets

The Cyanogen community of ROM hackers have released CyanogenMod 6.0, which makes the Android 2.2 Froyo OS available on phones such as the T-Mobile G1, HTC Dream and HTC Magic.

Cyanogen had earlier released an Android Éclair build for the same phones in its version 5.0.7. The latest Cyanogen mod containing Android 2.2 can be uploaded to phones equipped with CyanogenMod 5.0.7 as well, though the contents of the phone may have to be wiped clean for proper installation of the software.

However, CyanogenMod 6.0 is not entirely free from problems. Though the capacities of the first build have been widely appreciated, issues have reported with downloading apps from the Android Market. Certain G1 devices have also reportedly got stuck and then restarted all over again. The latest version does not include support for Flash 10.1 as well.

Overall, version 6.0 of the software is said to be faster than CyanogenMod 5 owing to the presence of Froyo’s JIT compiler. However, users intending to install the software in their phones have been advised to be careful as your phone could get bricked very easily.
