Panasonic announced in Europe its newest ELUGA waterproof smartphone, which is the company’s first smartphone for Europe. With a ultra slim design and ergonomic curved-edge shape, the Android device is IP57 certified that it is able to immersed into water at a depth of up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes and is dustproof. It is powered by a dual-core TI 1GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and runs Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with future upgrade to Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The ELUGA sports a 4.3-inch capacitive 960×540 OLED touchscreen and with super-thin frame, the phone offers a 66% display area ratio, which is the largest on the market. It features a 8 Megapixel auto focus camera with image stabilizer and Full HD video recording, 8GB internal memory, GPS/AGPS support, Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi connectivity. The ELUGA also packs DLNA support and NFC.
Panasonic’s ELUGA uses micro SIM like the iPhone and supports quad-band GSM/EDGE and HSPA+ mobile networks. It includes the Eco mode that will automatically turns off certain functions and setting changes, when the the power of your battery falls below a defined amount. The integrated 1150mAh battery provides up to 300 hours of standby and 240 minutes of talk time. The ultra light ELUGA weighs just 103 gram and is only 7.8mm thick.
Panasonic is going to release the ELUGA in Europe in April.
