At the Detroit show, Subaru seems to be winning a million hearts. The car maker has unveiled its Hybrid Tourer Concept, which when made for real would most likely be a sensation on the tarmac.  

The Subaru pavilion seemed like it had a winged visitor which just landed on to the podium. Complete with gull-wing doors, the Hybrid Tourer might just be a concept for now. But we hope it would definitely get on to the assembly line soon. Significant aspects about the hybrid concept are the range of screens, including one integrated into the steering wheel, and a wide open interior facilitated by a flat floor design. To be built on a gas-electric hybrid system based on the boxer engine, it is expected that the car would most probably hit the auto mart in 2012.

The Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept car will be driven by a powertrain made up of a 2.0-liter horizontally-opposed direct fuel-injection turbo gasoline engine and two electric motors. While one of the electric motors would be placed in front, the other would find its place at the rear.

Subaru brass said that the electric motors would add 27 HP in the front and 13 HP in the rear. Further, the rear motor has been designed so as it can be used without engaging the gasoline engine. This would help in low speed maneuvers. The front engine, in the meantime, can be put to use for normal driving. Going further, as you accelerate, the rear electric motor can be brought into play to yield maximum power. A stop/start system has also been incorporated by the car maker so that you may switch off the engine when the car isn’t moving. The concept car comes with specs like four independent seats, small rear facing cameras and new a bunch of lithium batteries to power the electric motors.
