EA Announces Skate 3 For May 2010 (video)

I just played Skate 2 for the first time and was super disappointed with all the frame rate hiccups.  It was almost unplayable.  Perhaps it was my archaic 20GB Xbox 360 from 2005 not being able to handle the game. At any rate, I was pleasantly overjoyed when I found out that EA was going to release Skate 3 in May 2010.  Set in a entirely new city called “Port Carverton” the game will feature some Rodney Mullen inspired tricks like the “darkslide”, and the teaser trailer below eludes to some new type of team play. Let’s just hope this version

Huawei set to launch 56Mbps HSPA+ service in 2010

Remember last week? When 21Mbps HSPA+ was something to stand up and cheer about, and you were even happy to settle for HSPA 7.2 if you could? Well, it’s time trade in those good feelings for some jealousy and bitterness once again, buckaroo, ’cause Hauwei has now announced that it’s set to more than double HSPA+ speeds to a jaw-dropping 56Mbps. That impressive feat has reportedly already been demonstrated by the company in Beijing, and Huawei will apparently begin a full rollout sometime next year. What’s more, Huawei says that its carrier partners will be

We’re circling in on a 250GB PS3 Slim, and this time it’s made an appearance at Spanish retailer GAME with an October 8th release date and a copy of Euro-centric FIFA 2010 along for the ride. No pricetag or box shot, but we like where this is headed all the same. [Thanks, Alejandro]

Microsoft’s Project Pink finally bearing fruit in 2010 with two self-branded phones?

The concept of a self-branded Microsoft phone (or two) actually making it to market is more believable than ever. A deterrent frequently cited in years past was Microsoft’s vested interest in keeping its Windows Mobile hardware partners happy — but as even their staunchest supporters (think HTC and LG) have turned to Android to shore up their smartphone lineups, it’d be far less of a backstabbing move on Redmond’s part to get into the business next year than it would’ve been in, say, 2006 or even 2008. Add in the fact that the Zune HD shares 99

T-Mobile starts 21Mbps HSPA+ rollout in Philadelphia, nationwide in 2010

T-Mobile USA’s really kicking things into high gear, coming from behind (way behind, actually) on its 3G launch to become the first to bring 21Mbps HSPA+ here — and possibly the only one to do it, considering that its closest GSM rival is leapfrogging from 7.2Mbps HSPA to LTE. Speaking at 4G World in Chicago, T-Mobile’s Neville Ray has gone on record saying that its 3G footprint will be blanketed by HSPA+ next year and is actually already up and running in parts of Philadelphia; amusingly, he was apparently a little weirded out by AT&T’s earlier

Windows Mobile 7 – Microsoft Windows Mobile 7 coming in 2010

While Windows Mobile 6.5 phones have yet to warm up the consumer market on an official basis, Microsoft is already working on Windows Mobile 7 that is touted to roll out sometime next year. That’s less than a 1 year gap between both releases, making us hope that Windows Mobile 6.5 would not be a half-hearted attempt at being a stop-gap measure. Apparently, Windows Mobile 7 will boast a “Mobile Social Platform” which ought to revitalize social networks, integrating them into the core experience whenever you fire up a Windows

Apple tablet rumors strike back: 9.6-inch with HSDPA and P.A. Semi processor coming February 2010?

Now that all that iPod mess is over and done with, looks like it’s as good of time as any to return to the world of Apple tablet rumors. A report from Taiwan Economic News starts us off right, with “industry sources” telling the outlet it’ll have a 9.6-inch multitouch screen, built-in HSDPA (so much for Verizon), a P. A. Semi processor, a “long lasting battery pack,” and a $799 to $999 price tag. Most to all of that sounds fairly familiar, but coming along with it is a new timeline: shipments will reportedly be delivered to Apple this December

Blockbuster plans to part with 960 retail stores by end of 2010

Seriously, Blockbuster can’t seem to get a break. In a recent SEC filing, the company identified 18 percent of its retail outlets it deemed unprofitable and announced plans to close up to 960 stores by the end of 2010. That’s divided into up to 685 by the end of this year and the remaining 275 the year after, but the filing continues to say that up to 1,560 locations, or 22 percent of its total retail coverage, could end up falling the wayside. Another slide indicates how the company sees itself going forward, with an expansion of kiosks and its Total Access
