| Apple just announced iPhone OS 3.1, which includes Genius recommendations for the App Store. The update also brings a ringtone store, with over 30,000 ringtones at $1.29 a pop. 3.1 is available today for free to iPhone users and iPod touch users with 3.0.

For those people proficient enough to install their own satellite dish – Metronic are now offering the first DIY Freesat kit. On sale at retailer Maplin, for £180, you can now get your mitts on a high-definition enabled Metronics set-top box, a 48cm Freesat mesh antenna and various accoutrements. Microsoft has announced that the three version family pack of Windows 7 will not be available in the UK for the moment because we have Windows 7 E. According to the corporation, it's "because the Family Pack is designed as an upgrade SKU, and upgrade SKUs of Windows 7 E will not be available in the UK until at least 2010." So there we have it, no upgrade version of Windows 7 until at least 2010. T-Mobile will release the HTC Hero today (re-branded as the G2 Touch) online, and in stores over the coming weeks. The information was broken via the company's official Twitter account, which confirmed the phone would make it into the shops by the promised August deadline. Orange was the first network to carry the HTC Hero, releasing it last week, but T-Mobile has been hot on its heels. It seems the Windows 7 pre-sale has been a lot better than even Microsoft expected - which prompted PC World to declare it the "fastest selling software ever." Amazon is no longer taking pre-orders of any of the versions. PC World's parent company DSGi said that demand in the first 12 hours of pre-order launch saw sales of Windows 7 exceed 25 per cent of DSGi's total annual sales of Windows Vista. That's some figures.
