Back on the 21st of January when Amazon announced that it would release its Kindle Development Kit, A/K/A KDK, we heard it would begin rolling out in limited beta this month, with a wait list of people getting access to the kit as space was available. Well, that moment has arrived, and you can now sign up to receive said KDK. Our tipster wasn't able to get the software in hand yet, but we'll keep on the lookout for it. Hit the read link to sign up, and to check out Amazon's FAQ, as well.

[Thanks, Mark]

We've now pretty much reached saturation point with OnLive demos, so it's good to finally see an independent set of eyes poring over the service and giving us the lowdown on the actual user experience. Whether you call it on demand, streamed, or cloud gaming, the concept is remarkably simple -- OnLive pumps games via a web browser onto your machine and gives you the full gaming experience without the need for all that pretty, but expensive hardware. PC Perspective's Ryan Shrout "found" a login to the Beta program and has put together a very thorough comparison between

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) has launched a beta version of Ovi Store for the N900. It’s not a client app at this point, but a mobile website, which you can access from store.ovi.mobi. Once you click on the “Download” link, Application Manager will open and take it from there.

Among the apps we find are such must-have titles as Documents To Go (mobile office suite), Evernote Sharing Plugin (my favorite note taking tool), Foreca Weather and Facebook. There are also other

Boxee has made its new user interface design official and it does look very good. From what we can see, it looks well thought-out as well. The global menu leads you quickly to the most accessed features and the social aspect (recommendations and so on...) is very readable on the left. The other important element, the queue, is updated on the right. The movie library that mixes local and internet content seems quite convenient.

Behind the scenes, the support for hardware acceleration is there and Boxee

Despite the fact that Blizzard has warned us, there have been some fake beta invite emails starting to go out for the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm. In fact, they tried to catch the CrunchGear crew this morning with their little fake email and site.

It started out looking legitimate enough; having received emails from Blizzard before, the format and tone looked legitimate. The first clue that something was wrong was when the URL that was shown in the email was different from the one that showed up on the webpage. Not to mention that to

Opera has released beta 3 of Opera 10 – with the browser getting ever closer to a full release.

The latest beta includes a few minor changes – like a more visual tab option, continued tweaks to the UI, more languages integrated and crash protection.

However, Opera Unite – the tool that Opera are calling Web 5.0 – is not included in beta 3, with the company explaining that it remains in its Alpha testing phase.

Testing phase

More than a million people have been testing beta 2, to the delight of the company.

A trimmer version of Facebook looks to be on the cards, after the social-networking site sent out invitations to select users to beta test the site.

Not much is known about just how slimmed-down the Lite version of Facebook will be, but it could be a blessing for users who think that Facebook at the moment is getting far too cluttered with apps.

Feedback needed

TechCrunch is reporting that it has been inundated with social networkers who have been asked to try out Facebook Lite saying that, surprise surprise, it is more

Microsoft has reversed its decision not to offer free copies of Windows 7 to beta testers.

In a statement posted today on the Windows 7 Team Blog, Brandon LeBlanc wrote: "Last week, I blogged that members of the Windows Technical Beta Program would not be receiving a complimentary copy of Windows 7. Normally I hate to be wrong but in this case, I'm stoked that I am.

"To show our appreciation, members of the invitation-only Windows 7 Technical Beta Program will be eligible for a free, final copy of Windows 7 Ultimate."

GigJunkie.net, the UK's specialist gig listings website and online service for hunting down those must-have concert tickets goes from beta to Live this week.

The devs at Gigjunkie.net inform us that they have taken all of the beta testers feedback into account and have arrived at a much-improved new design and an enhanced user experience.

The site also features a bunch of new and improved features "all made possible through leading edge technology" and based on Microsoft's recently released MVC framework, which has "enabled GigJunkie to

Microsoft insists that its UK version of Bing – its brand new search engine – will benefit from being less evolved than its US counterpart, with the company explaining why it will stay in beta on this side of the pond.

The US version is being fully launched much earlier than the UK version – bringing functionality that is not present in Britain and Ireland's Bing.

But Search Lead Paul Stoddart believes that it is actually beneficial to stay in beta for a while and learn a few lessons before the UK version is marketed.
