Hitachi is releasing a new projector into Australia, the CP-D10. This projector features 2000 ANSI lumens, 400:1 contrast ratio, and a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. The main feature about the D10 is the new free-shaped plastic lens that helps reduce shadowing and eye glare. The lens is also a short throw lens that allows the projector to display up to a 100 inch display from less than 4 feet away. Hitachi is proud to announce that they have developed a way to take the 3D glasses out of the 3D experience. Called the “Full Parallax 3D TV” this display actually isn’t a TV, but instead of comprised of 16 projectors that uses a lens array sheet to cover the screen. The lens array sheet creates a parallax effect that allows the image to appear 3D. The sheet also eliminates the viewer’s placement restriction that was a common problem with other 3D techniques that don’t use glasses. Hitachi Global Storage Technologies announced the new Ultrastar 15K600 and Ultrastar C15K147 enterprise-class hard drives. Both models feature 15,000RPM spin speed and a record reliability of 1.6 million hours mean time between failures (MTBF).
The Ultrastar 15K600 has a 3.5-inch form factor and use 6Gb/s SAS or 4Gb/s FCAL interface. It has 64MB buffer cache. The drive is 23% faster than its predecessor. The Ultrastar 15K600 line is available in 300GB, 450GB and 600GB capacities.

Hitachi has some pretty spectacular short throw projectors. Recently, the Hitachi CP-A100J was used with the UPIC Plus Wireless Interactive Panel 560M in order to create a touch-screen desktop. The screen is 56” and requires the projector to be stood on end in the middle of the table. Hitachi has produced the world’s first two terabyte 7200 rpm HDD, with the race to have the biggest storage device showing no sign of abating.
WD rolled out a 2TB drive earlier in the year, but Hitachi’s mammoth HDD is significantly faster at 7200rpm compared to WD’s 5400.
The Hitachi 2TB Deskstar 7K2000 has a 32MB cache, 3Gb/s SATA interface and no fixed date for the UK market, although it launches in the US this week.

Hitachi has posted the biggest ever financial loss by a Japanese manufacturer, and the second largest in Japanese corporate history: 787.3 billion yen, up from a (modest) deficit of 58.1 billion last year.
The Japanese giant was not only hit by falling demand for electronic devices, but by a significant downturn in its sprawling industrial systems and infrastructure divisions.
In a statement, the company warned that it did not expect ‘a full-fledged recovery until 2010 at the earliest.’ 7,000 jobs from its global workforce will go.
