MetroPCS announced the world’s first commercial launch of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services and releases the world’s first VoLTE-capable phone, the LG Connect 4G (model MS840). Currently, 4G LTE phones handle voice calls using 2G or 3G network, with VoLTE service and handsets, calls to and from the handset will use LTE network, regardless of the handset or network used on the other end of the call.

LG announced its new premium flagship smartphone, the Optimus G that is the first quad-core smartphone with LTE capabilities. Powered by Qualcomm’s SnapDragon S4 Pro quad-core 1.5GHz processor and 2GB of RAM, the phone supports LG’s unique User Experience (UX). It has a elegant and sleek design and a Crystal Reflection finish on the back for a luxurious look and feel. LG said that the Crystal Reflection will gives back cover the ability to display different patterns depending on the viewing angle and lighting.

In addition to WiMAX network, Sprint is also joining the party of LTE and the carrier is going to release the LG Viper 4G LTE smartphone. Powered a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, the phone runs Android 2.3. It features a 4-inch WVGA NOVA touchscreen, a 5 Megapixel main camera, and a VGA front-facing camera. The Viper is a Sprint ID smartphone, allowing users to through the clutter of more than 400,000 apps in Android Market by selecting from a variety of mobile ID packs featuring apps, ringers, wallpapers, widgets and more.

If you look at LG’s line-up for the MWC 2012, each phone has its own selling point, 3D, NFC, and quad-core. What LG’s Optimus Vu is selling is probably its large 5-inch display that comes in 4:3 aspect ratio, unlike most touchscreen smartphones. The 4:3 5-inch display offers a tablet-like viewing, making makes viewing documents, books, internet and multimedia contents easier and more comfortable. Along with the quad-core Optimus 4X HD and 3D Optimus 3D MAX, LG is also bringing the Optimus LTE Tag to the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012, which is built on the Optimus LTE. Featuring a slim and sleek design, the handset comes with built-in support for NFC (Near Field Communication) and supports LG Tag+ (that are acutally also available on 4X HD and 3D MAX). Using the special stickers called Tags, users can change the phone’s settings easily with just a swipe.

AT&T, alongside the HD7S, announced the LG Thrill 4G, which is in fact the US version of LG’s Optimus 3D Android smartphone. One of the main features of the Thrill 4G/Optimus 3D is its 4.3-inch glasses-free stereoscopic 3D touchscreen that allows users to view images without the need of 3D glasses.
