ZOMM Keeps You From Losing Phone Or Keys, Not Both At Same Time

The ZOMM is apparently the “world’s first wireless leash” for cell phones. It’s a little disky thing that you attach to your keychain, and it tethers itself to your cell phone via Bluetooth. If it gets separated from your phone by more than a preset distance, it beeps at you, which is its primary feature. It also works as a wireless speaker phone, and if you push the single button on the front, it will start shrieking and auto-dial emergency services. In general, the ZOMM seems like a handy thing to carry around. It’s reasonably small (about the size of a

[CES 2010] Samsung Projector Phone Gives A Glimmer Of Hope That One Day They Won’t Be Monstrous

While they had little to no information about the phone itself, the good people at Texas Instruments were showing off this unnamed Samsung phone (I believe the model # 9600 was thrown around?) since it features a built-in DLP-based projector. While it’s not as thin as the Nexus One or the iPhone, it’s still remarkably compact given there’s a projector crammed inside! And a decent one at that! Now a crumpled piece of copier paper isn’t the most ideal thing to use as a projection screen, but to be honest it’s pretty close to real world conditions. I

Mobile Phone That Runs On Coke

Do you think the battery on your mobile phone is inadequate? Well, maybe in the future we’ll have phone like this one designed by designer Daizi Zheng, which runs on Coca-Cola. Its fuel cell generates electricity from carbohydrates in the Coke, or any other sugary liquid for that matter. This will ideally be a more eco-friendly solution to providing battery power, and will generate water and oxygen while the battery dies off. So will there ever be a day that we pop into the nearest 7-11 to buy a can of Coke to juice up our mobile

i-mate 810-F supertough phone

[CES 2010] We thought that i-mate had called it quits where making rugged cellphones are concerned, but they are back with the 810-F which is a general bad-ass handset, capable of withstanding just about any abuse you throw at it. It complies with military specifications, which makes it shock, water, dust, cold and heat-proof (to a certain degree of course). Heck, we suppose driving your car over this wouldn't hurt it one bit, and you can always continue chatting on the 810-F while you're taking a shower. Pity about Windows Mobile 6.1

New Input Mechanism That Lets You Wave Your Fingers At Your Phone

Professor Masatoshi Ishikawa and Dr. Takashi Komuro of the Tokyo University have come up with a new input method that they call “vision-based input interface”. Basically this system uses a forward facing camera to read the gestures of your fingers, allowing you to type, click, browse pictures and some other stuff without having to physically touch the phone. The front facing camera used in this demo is a 154 FPS (frame per second) sensor, which will mean we’ll need better front-facing cameras on our phones for this to

Previously Mentioned Nexus One Root Might Not Work On Shipped Phone

Do you remember the “superboot” image that rooted Google’s Nexus phone a few days ago? Well, according to the Twitter account of the person who came up with the trick, it might not work on the version of the phones that are being shipped – bummer. Of course, if you’re really desperate, you could hang on the “probably” that he mentioned, but let’s not place too much hope on that, shall we? The good thing is that the Android community is rather active, and with the excitement around the
