If you’re not already using the popular Skype Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) client that is available free to download for Windows, Mac and Linux, you’re missing out on one of the most popular text, voice and video chat applications in the world.
Most commonly used for voice chat (Skype even allows you to attach telephone numbers to your account) Skype can also be used for many other purposes, from sharing information about what you’re currently listening to in your favourite media player to integrating the client with Twitter in various ways.

Making calls from Skype is cheaper than using a landline. This is a pretty well-known fact – the legions of Skype phones that are available in electronics stores should underline this. While chatting to other people with Skype usernames is free, calling landlines and mobiles is paid for out of a Skype subscription. However even with this you’re paying far less than you would with a regular landline.
If you’re a regular Skype user or even if you’re someone who has opted to use Skype in favour of a standard landline facility, getting a phone number for your Skype account

It is common knowledge that the HTC Thunderbolt 4G is headed for Verizon and could be available on the carrier network this month. A couple of release dates have also been floating around, with some touting a February 14 date while other say the release could happen on February 24th. However, the latest piece of information talks of Best Buy putting up the device for pre-sale.
Online retailer Best Buy has begun the pre-sale of the HTC Thunderbolt 4G, and we hear this is a Best Buy exclusive. Though the device has started showing up on the retailer’s pages, no information

New for Android is Line2, a much-needed VOIP application that allows you to make as many calls as you like within the US and Canada for just $9.95 a month – and so impressed are developers Toktumi (see what they did there?) that they’re giving away 30 days free for you to try it out.
This is a feature-packed VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) app, however, that might just fill in the gap left by Skype’s virtual no-show on Android. Line2 offers you your own VOIP phone number and calls can be made on Wi-Fo or 3G and 4G networks. If you have a suitable camera, a visual

Windows Phone 7 is barely ready for its first update and already Microsoft are rumoured to be developing a whole new paradigm for Windows Phone 8 – something that is very likely to feature a front-facing camera as part of the minimum spec.
Mobile video calling seems to be caught in a perennial “loop of tomorrow” – like the 1950s vision of a rocket pack for every man woman and child by the year 2000, it is a technology that gets a lot of press coverage at the prototype stage but never seems to catch on, mainly thanks to differing protocols and varying corporate

It must be said, at this year’s CES in Las Vegas, there’s been quite some hype around Verizon’s 4G (LTE) network. To make it even more attractive than they did with numbers and stats, Big Red not only announced a plethora of superphones capable of being “blazingly fast”, like the HTC Thunderbolt, they also announced that Skype Mobile with video will be part of it, too.
According to Verizon exec Marni Walden, “using Skype mobile with video, you can see what I see, and I can see what you see becomes reality, and it’s because of the combination of Skype and Verizon

When we told you that Skype was bringing Video Calling to iPhone 4, iPad and iPod Touch (4th Generation), we firmly believed that they were going to lift the lid off of the technology come CES 2011. But they just decided to give everyone something to dig into over the New Year weekend with plenty of holidays and party time on offer. So, we got the technology over on our iPhone and on the Apple iTunes Store already and it is sure to be a big hit with iPhone and even iPad users across the globe.
You can indeed now make video calls using Skype on the iPhone over both Wi-Fi and 3G

We have been waiting for this, right? Frankly speaking, we never expected the roll out until CES opened, but Skype had different plans. Good, anyways, for us by all means. Skype has made official video calling on iOS devices and that means you will be able to make video calls on your iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and fourth-generation iPod touch devices.
Getting to share real time video is no mean thing, we believe. What exactly has Skype brought in through this feature? The new version brings in video conferencing for iPhone and iPod Touch and also enables Skype to Skype video calls

Yesterday we found out that Apple is said to have upped their Q1 2011 shipments for the iPhone 4 and that the CDMA version of the phone might be included in this batch, too.
While some would say that the CDMA iPhones are meant for China, rumors have it that they’ll go to North America instead — and who else, if not Verizon to sell them to their customers?
Well folks, we have more insinuations to make, as we’re hearing that Skype leaked some documentation on their site that promotes the Verizon iPhone.
The document is part of Skype’s FAQ and explains how to “make video

The past week or so has been simply horrible for Skype. They not only messed up their chat services and calling services in the most important period of the year, but apparently lost a huge number of users to rival OoVoo. That said, maybe they got many of them back on Skype and hopefully this has affected Skype’s short-term reputation more than its long term revenue. Damage control has started in full swing with free credit being given to some of the paying customers and now Skype is all set to unveil video chat for iPhone and iPad at CES 2011.
This should see for the first
